One daily thing to have joy

What brings you joy?

Last week I shared with you my story of almost losing my father to suicide. In the midst of that hard time, I found joy.

Joy can heal. Joy can change your mindset. Joy can be the reason you get out of bed each morning. Joy can be what keeps you going through your hard times.

Over years of coaching, I can share that the common things people say bring them joy are —

Family/partner/friends/kids

Moving your body/fitness/dancing/walks

The simple things

Laughing/playing

Morning coffee/tea

Seeing people you care about grow

Being present

Did any of these show up on your list?

Often the things that bring us joy are happening on some level right now. And… often it’s less about doing those things more (which for sure is helpful) and more about noticing those moments that are already here.

How do find joy?

Here is the one sure-fire thing you can do every day to find joy:

Practice gratitude

There is a reason why being grateful is on the top of almost every article, blog, and video on positive transformation. It’s because it works. And it’s free and so easy to do that I invite you to have no excuses about integrating a gratitude practice into your daily routine.

How I do this in my own life is after I meditate, I journal three or more things I am grateful for with a declarative statement, like this —

I am grateful for the people in my life. I have wonderful people in my life.

I am grateful for my health. I am healthy.

I am grateful for my home. I have a warm, safe place to live.

If you’re not on the gratitude train yet, now is the time to get on. If you’re on it but not practicing daily, now is the time to commit to upping your game.

Here is to more joy in your life.
